Following A Raw Vegan Diet on a Budget

The endeavour to lead an all raw vegan lifestyle can seem overwhelming to many. The overriding reason being that of food, not only from the ' What will I eat? ‘aspect, but moreover,  ' How will I afford this? ‘, and 'How much do I need to eat? "

Let us address the most difficult to wrap ones mind around: Buying fresh produce without breaking the bank account. There are some fundamental things to bear in mind, put into practice and execute, which will often lead to wise choices which only benefit individuals on this journey. Here are a few:

1. Small Organic Farmers.

Get to know your local farmers: ~ moreso the truly organic farmers. By doing this, oftentimes than not, the individual sourcing directly from them will be  awarded lower prices, gaining from the direct supplier,  particularly if you can rally a team of purchasers who wish to purchase in bulk. Additionally, some farmers welcome additional harvesting hands in exchange for free/no cost, or at  drastically reduce…

Recipe!! Fried Cabbage

One of my favorite comfort foods is Fried Cabbage. Something about it just fills my belly up with all types of warm feelings and can make me feel better even on the gloomiest of days.
I was always a skeptic of cabbage, for some reason I was convinced that I did not like it. Until one day a few years ago my Step Mother made it for dinner and I decided that I did not want to be rude and I ate it anyway. Oh boy! I am glad that I decided to try it
There are many ways to enjoy cabbage, you can cut it into thick slices, grill them or roast them for cabbage steaks. You can Use the leaves as a shell for yummy fillings and make cabbage rolls. Or you can just chop it up and fry it in your favorite skillet.
For this recipe, a cast iron skillet is the best. This is the way that my Step Mother makes it and it is the best by far. If you do not own a cast iron skillet you can also use a regular skillet it will still taste wonderful!

Recipe!! Turnip Cake

There is a local restaurant here in Louisville that makes the best turnip cakes. It is actually a local favorite and people travel from all over to eat at this restaurant Sounds great right? Well, the issue is that it is clear on the other side of town. I rarely find time to drive all the way over there to get turnip cakes. So I decided to make them on my own!
The recipe is surprisingly easy and only has a few ingredients and is super easy to make. What really makes the difference in this dish is the seasonings. Turnips do not taste like much of anything so you would need to season it very well and serve it with an awesome sauce.
Most places service this fried with eggs, but if you are a vegan you can leave out the eggs and serve it on its own. Simply brown it in cooking oil.
This recipe is a hit with everyone I have shared it with! I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Easy Hummus Recipe

Hey guys! Today I wanted to share with you a hummus recipe. Hummus is one of my go-to snack items and it can be so expensive to buy. I was asked to make it for a family gathering not that long ago and they suggested that I try to make it from scratch. After doing a bit of research and asking around I realized that it is so easy to make!
I was able to make a big batch of it in 15 minutes and it cost me $2.00 to make double the amount that I usually get from the store for $5.00. I thought that this was so awesome that I could not share it with you guys!
This is seriously a skill every vegetarian and vegan should have. Even if you are not a good cook, you could figure this one out pretty easily. This recipe is a pretty basic recipe. You can add other ingredients to make other flavors. For example, you could add roasted red peppers to it or you could add lemon juice to it. If you search there are thousands of things you can add to your hummus.
Hummus can be used for many different thing…

Recipe!! Vegan Zucchini Bread

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening! Today I wanted to share a vegan zucchini bread recipe with you. Zucchini bread is one of my Mothers favorite and we always had it this time of year. It is one of my holiday favorites. Since I am phasing eggs out of my diet, I thought it would be super fun to experiment with vegan zucchini bread recipes.
I tried on with a flax seed "egg" and one with bananas. The banana one was voted the better out of the two in my house. My husband absolutely loves banana bread so he also really enjoyed this bread. It is almost like a combination of banana bread and zucchini bread and taste absolute heaven. You can not even tell it is vegan, which makes a perfect dish to share with others.
For this recipe, I used a circle baking dish because I have misplaced my bread baking dish. This recipe works in pretty much any size baking dish you have!
Feel free to mix this recipe up and add other things to it. A few ideas of different things you could try …

How to Make Fruit Leather

Hey guys! Today I wanted to talk about fruit leather. Fruit leather is basically a healthier alternative to fruit roll ups. It is often made with just a hand full of ingredients and less sugar. As a child, my favorite snack was fruit roll ups, or anything gummy really. Now, I do not eat them because of the ingredients, I do not know what most of the ingredients are in it. I make it a general rule to not eat something if I do not know what it is. I was feeling a bit nostalgic the other day and I really wanted to have a fruit roll up. I remembered over the summer seeing something on Facebook about fruit leather, it seems have been all the rage over the warmer months the last few years. I recently purchased a dehydrator (if you are a regular reader then you know all about my dehydrator!) and I always keep an abundance of fruit around the house. I decided that I would try my hand at fruit leather.

The process  itself is fairly simple. You take 4-8 cups of fruit (depending on the size of y…

The Basics of Essential Oils: Top 10 Oils Everyone Should Have

Recently I have done a whole lot of research in different ways I can incorporate essential oils into my day to day life. The information I found was so mind blowing that I just had to share it with you guys. Before I get started I would like to say that I am not a doctor, I do not suggest ignoring a medical professional advice. I believe knowledge is power and in this case the results will speak for themselves. I hope by reading this post you will have an opportunity to open and expand your mind to a different way of healing. This is quite possibly the oldest way of healing.
Essential oils have been used for healing for as long as humans have been writing things down. Healers would take different plants and grind them together to make medicines. In the Bible, it says that a bottle of lavender essential oil would be worth a year wages. So you know it was very valuable.

There is so much information about essential oils that I have decided to break it up into a few different posts. In …

How to transition to a Fully Raw Plant Foods Diet as part of a Healthy Lifestyle

Description. A raw food lifestyle is one which focuses on changing certain habits and practices into what I deem as healthy ones. The main shift  to make is to incorporate fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds (  the latter two at a minimum), in their natural, whole in season forms, with no added heat nor extreme low temperatures(freezing) as your source of foods on a permanent/long term basis.

Why. There are many benefits to eating this way, some of which include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Increased energy. 2. Detoxification. 3. Cell Regeneration. 4. Improved digestion. 5. Better sleep. 6. Improved bowel health. 7. Clearer skin.

These will be achieved over a period of time which varies from person to person. Additionally, the best fit for each person must be achieved to enjoy any benefits.

History: The genesis of this type of lifestyle stems from the fact that these foods are life and energy promoting, by their very chemical makeup and composition at the cellular level.  This …
