A Little About Stella And The Purpose Of This Blog

Hello, my name is Stella and I am the co-owner and co-creator of this blog The Smoothie Vegetarians! I am 22 years old and I live in Kentucky. I am so excited that you are here! I just want to take a moment to tell you a few things about me and this blog.

I have been a vegetarian since August of 2016. My reasoning for transitioning was for health reasons. I was tired of feeling tired all of the time. The real wake up call was, one night I was laying in bed and I started having chest pains. The next week, I started my transition. I slowly started adding more fresh fruits and vegetables then all of my issues started disappearing.

I have toyed with the idea of being a Vegetarian my entire life. The reasoning has changed over the years. There is the issue with the way the industry treats animals. I can be considered an "emotional" person. This affects my life style, for example, when I look at a plate of chicken I see an image of a truck I saw on a road trip. My Mom and I were driving up to New York and spent a few hours behind this truck FULL of chickens. They were in small cages with at least 10 of them per cage and there were about 80 of those cages on the truck. It was slightly chilly and there was nothing covering them. Nothing protecting them from things flying through the air on the interstate or the cold air. My decision to transition was also based around my health. After doing research about things I could to improve a few medical issues I have (PCOS, Depression, Anxiety, Fatigue) I found that a mostly raw, mostly plant-based diet could solve these issues.

The reason we created this blog is because when I was starting to transition to a mostly plant based diet, I noticed a lack of vegetarian presence on the internet and social media. There are tons of resources and supports for vegans, but not for vegetarians. My goal is to fill that void some. I would like this blog to be a place where I can share my journey, information I find along the way, as well as a place for others to connect with people who have similar ideas. I look forward to learning more about every single one of you and I am grateful to have the opportunity journey my journey with you.
